  • Headlamp (preferred) or small flashlight
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • An old pair of sneakers for wearing around camp and getting in the water (we can't let you swim barefoot)
  • Other personal hygiene products you might use such as contact solution, tampons, etc.
Remember though, you will be carrying all of this for a few days. Don't bring stuff like deodorant. You will stink, regardless of what you do.
  • Any and all medications you take regularly
  • Any medications you might need in an emergency (Asthma Inhalers, for instance)
  • A small mess kit containing one of each :
    • Bowl
    • Mug
    • Small plate
    • Spoon and fork
    • If you can, go to an outdoor store and get a Lexan mess kit. You can also raid Mom's pantry, but don't bring anything that is too breakable or too heavy. Porcelain is not recommended.

Stuff you might want to bring

  • 1 or 2 bandanas
  • Bug spray (travel size)
  • Sun block (travel size)
  • Camera

Stuff we provide for you (If you plan to bring your own, please tell us):

  • Backpack
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Shelter (tarps)
  • Stove, fuel, cooking pot, etc
  • All Food (please don't bring your own)
  • All rock climbing and caving equipment (please contact us if you plan to bring your own)

Things you should definitely not bring:

  • Pets
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction
  • Anything that comes under the jurisdiction of the ATF or DEA
  • Make-up, hair care products, stuff to make you smell pretty, etc. This will just attract bugs or worse
  • Anything that requires electricity. The only electrical devices we allow are pacemakers.

Extras:

You will probably be able to shower before the trip home, so you can bring a set of clothes to change into and a small set of toiletries

Going Caving?:

If you are going on the West Virginia trip, you will have the opportunity to do some caving. Caving is messy work. You should bring a pair of clothes and shoes that you wouldn't mind throwing away.

A Word on Procurement:

Some of this stuff is really expensive. Please let us know if you are having trouble and we can make arrangements. The only thing you absolutely have to bring is your own socks, underwear, and boots. We don't share those things for obvious reasons.

Your guides all love the clothing and gear that they get from Patagonia. But we also realize that their prices are a tad out there. A great way to save money is to get store-brand items. REI, EMS, and many others have their own lines of clothing that are often just as good as the stuff from patagucci at significantly cheaper prices.
