While you don't have to do anything specifically to prepare for this trip, you'll have more fun if you do. Here are some of the basics. Depending on your athletic or wilderness activities, some of these things may or may not be necessary.

Four weeks before your trip:

  • Buy a pair of sturdy hiking boots.
  • Take those boots out for a hike. Do at least 3 miles. It will be very important for you to break in your new boots before your trip.
  • Try to add some cardio workouts into your routine. Do 15 to 20 minutes at a heart rate of 120 to 140. Try to do this 3 times this week.

Three weeks before your trip:

  • Start looking around for good deals on things on your gear list.
  • Try to do 2 hikes of 3 miles or more this week.
  • Lengthen your cardio workouts to 20 to 25 minutes

Two weeks before your trip:

  • Try to have everything on your gear list by the end of this week. Call or email us if you have any questions
  • Do another hike or two, but this time go for 5 miles or more
  • Bump your cardio workouts up to 30 minutes

One week before your trip:

  • Check over all your gear and get it packed up into a sturdy duffel bag
  • Go for one last hike, but otherwise give your feet a rest.
  • Do another couple 30-minute cardio workouts
  • Take really good care of your feet. You don't want to start the trip with any blisters. Trim your toenails two or three days before you leave.
